After finishing her education at Central St. Martins in London last year, Karin is now focusing on her own eponymous label. She is the last year’s winner of the Young Fashion Industry Award and is nominated for the 2011 Rookie of the Year award. Karin’s work is mainly concerned with fragmented structures, both mental and tangible. Through a high level of craftsmanship combined with non-verbal impressions, surfaces, an odd painting by a grandfather, manky old window displays and derelict spaces, her garments are sculpted through layers, gradually materialising. Working with fabrics, mainly silks with various structures and transparency creates interesting proportions and gives the wearer freedom to mix new and old garments in order to create something new. This collection is a continuation of previous work as an evolving process, which builds upon the theme of hidden layers, memories and fragments of the past. Working with simple silhouettes but odd details such as rubber bands and hand printed edges give the garments a unique character. The rubberband with it's fragile but yet strong quality and the abstract print developed from the burned edges from previous collection stand in contrast and works with the fabric to highlight its qualities.
