The National Swedish Handicraft Council was established in 1981 as an independent authority on the proposal of the 1977 Handicraft Commission. In1992 handicraft issues were transferred from Ministry of Industry to the Ministry of Culture. The Council has its headquarters at the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket) in Stockholm.

Toppstöðin station is a center for innovative people housed in an old power station in Reykjavik. The station was founded as a reaction to the changed economic scene following the global recession in the fall 2008.
